The Happy Soul, (Mark James Simpson) was born in Longsight, Manchester, on 29th October 1982. He was raised in nearby Salford. His early musical activity revolved around Roselin, a band formed with childhood friend, Francis John Robinson, in Salford. Later, after moving from home to various homes in and around Manchester, he decided to create music alone, under the name The Happy Soul. From this point there was a clear decision to incorporate all of the artistic influences around him into something distinctly Happy and Soulful. There are strands of Blues, Jazz, Music Hall, British Indie, and Rock and Roll evident in this music. His first album, 'The Modern-day Composer Refuses To Die', was released on Invisible Girl Records in December 2010. Since then he has been playing with a small ensemble, adding drums (Joe Nathan-Wilson), Singing Saw and vocals (Jonah Hancell), and Bass (Marquee Moon). The forthcoming album, 'WHITEDOTBLACKTRIANGLE' will be released in 2012.
