When the switched on and creative people of the world pass through Edinburgh for their stadium concerts, cinematic premieres and touring shows. they always seem to end up at a Katet gig. The eight piece band have had the likes of Anne Hathaway, The Mavericks, James Corden, Zero 7 and Snarky Puppy, to name but a few, all tearing it up on the dancefloor. Singer-songwriter, Mike Kearney, formed The Katet by handpicking the city’s leading players in funk, soul, blues, ska, rock and jazz fusion to form what has become one of the most dynamic live acts in Scotland. Mike and the band began their residency at Edinburgh’s award-winning Jazz Bar back in 2007. 5 years, and 400 gigs later, they have long forgotten how to disappoint. Along with his outrageously funky and uplifting tunes, Kearney has developed his own unique conducting style which only The Katet are savvy enough to handle. With two albums already under their belt (2009′s debut Leitmotif Man, and its 2011 follow up Philosophika) 2013/14 will see the release of 3 brand new EPs, all chunkier than anything the band has recorded to date. The first of which, Chess, is available for downloading now. “Northern Ireland’s answer to Stevie Wonder” – The Scotsman “Dynamic, danceable, and dastardly catchy” – Sunday Mail **** “Something of a funk colossus” – Edinburgh Evening News “There’s Jazz, there’s Funk, and then there’s The Mike Kearney Katet!” – James Corden
