Fresh from a succesful set at Wireless Festival and The Great Escape before that, The Kush have been busy writing and recording their particular brand of filthy blues based rock and roll in preparation for their first full EP due for release this autumn. The bands influences understandably vary depending on which member you speak to, but the general consensus lies around a back catalogue of Stax and Decca records, the obvious greats like The Rolling Stones, Led Zep, a fair amount of early grunge (the good kind) plus a whole load of guitar legends such as Davy Graham, BB King, Lead Belly, Hendrix et al. Add to this a love of the Prodigy, Unkle and the good bits of the Manc scene and that’s just about the start of their record collection. For the last two years The Kush have been holed up in their practice room. A warehouse unit with an underground reputation as a venue ‘The Room’ is known throughout their hometown. This creative haven is the spiritual home of the band and is shown in the inner sleeve images. You can visit www.thekush.co.uk for samples of their own unique sound, videos and photos. You can also check out the obligatory Myspace page at www.myspace.com/thekushlive for more information. With a national tour currently being organised you’ll no doubt be able to catch the guys laying waste to a venue near you very soon.
