The Matador
The Matador are an Australian five-piece band from the Gold Coast, South East Queensland. They play progressive post-metal and are associated with post-metal, sludge, mathcore and post-hardcore.
Style and influences
The band’s music moves between down-tempo, complex ambient passages and dense, driving sludge. Their sound draws on influences including Cult of Luna, Isis, Thrice and Deftones, as well as Radiohead, Interpol and The National. They avoid the breakdowns, blast beats and death growls common in much heavy music.
Releases
The Matador release the debut EP Descent Into The Maelstrom worldwide in 2011. They also build on a reputation as a live band, with performances described as combining experimental melodic sections, atmospheric development and later chaotic climaxes.
