The Necromancers

The Necromancers are a heavy occult rock group from Poitiers, France. They are active from 2015 and present, and their sound sits across hard rock, heavy metal, occult rock and rock, with further links to doom metal, stoner metal and stoner rock.

Line-up

The band is a quartet: Simon Evariste plays bass, Benjamin Rousseau plays drums and percussion, Robin Genais plays lead guitar, and Tom Cornière-David handles lead vocals and rhythm guitar.

Style and influences

The Necromancers draw on mythology, religious and fantastical tales from European literature, together with classical horror cinema from the 20th century. Their music mixes progressive rock, doom metal, heavy psych and early 1970s pagan proto-metal, with references to Black Sabbath and Coven. Their songs combine fuzzy, witchy riffs, thick doom textures, metallic intensity and elements associated with NWOBHM and psychedelic imagery.

Recordings and label

The band is signed to Ripple Music, a heavy rock label. Their debut full-length, Servants of the Salem Girl, is released in 2017 and establishes their occult doom approach. Their second album, Of Blood and Wine, follows in 2018 and continues the same themes and moods with heavier riffs and more developed songwriting.

Live activity

After a winter tour with Swiss psych rock band Monkey 3, the group tours Europe with Belzebong, beginning with an album release show in Poitiers.
