The Rough Kutz
The Rough Kutz are a ska group from Stoke-on-Trent, active since 1994. Their music is described as being in a two-tone-inspired ska style, and they also fit the tags ska, British, skinhead ska and third wave ska.
Releases
The band’s first album, A Bit O Rough, appears on Skanky Lil Records in 1997. A second album, Welcome to Our World, follows on the same label in 2002. In 2006 they release Another Week Another War, also on Skanky Lil, and in 2010 they issue their fourth album, Gangsters Playground, on R.K. Records.
Collaborations and live work
Another Week Another War features Roddy Radiation of The Specials on guest guitar on a couple of tracks. In the same year, he also joins the band for a short European tour. In 2012, The Rough Kutz record The Specials song Rude Boys Outa Jail for the compilation Specialized, an album of Specials cover versions released on Specials2 Records in support of Teenage Cancer Trust. They also perform at the launch gig in Coventry, with Roddy Radiation joining them for a few live songs.
Ongoing activity
The Rough Kutz continue to perform live and play their own style of ska.
