Following support from NME for their first soft release & a national tour under their belt, 2012 is set to be a huge year for THE SPECIAL KS.
The Special Ks are the newest act to emerge from Brighton, famous for producing bands including The Kooks and most recently, Rizzle Kicks who have referred to the band as, ”Fellow Brighton boys, [we] love what these guys are doing.”
Their music was last year heard in national TV programs including E4’s MADE IN CHELSEA & MTV’s ‘Punk’d’ this year they collaborate with international brands including COCA-COLA and MTV on further music placements & event appearances.
Contrary to popular belief, the five-strong group which EQ magazine describes as a “Glorious electronic pop band” were not named after the famous cereal; instead the name was inspired by the lead singer’s surname, Howard Kaye. The Special Ks are also made up or four other vital ingredients, Darren, Mat, Al and Gan who together create a “Toe tappingly good” (Bliss magazine) strong electro-pop sound which sits perfectly with current music tastes and trends.
Fresh from a performance showcasing for Coca-cola during the London 2012 Olympics, the band were also most recently asked to support JESSIE J.
Their sound has been likened to other breakthrough bands such as Friendly Fires and Fenech Soler & the band’s electric live sound, energy & vibrancy can be seen in the creative and vibey videos they have seeded out online.
As a band constantly touring and on the road, aside from Jessie J The Special Ks have notably also opened for Fenech Soler, Metronomy, Casio Kids & The Jezebels bringing what band member Darren (keys) describes as “high energy shows” entirely live with no backing tracks. Metronomy even reiterate, “we couldn’t ask for a better support band to build an atmosphere and get the crowd going.’ ‘In addition to the infamous international European event MIDEM, the band also sold out their show at THE GREAT ESCAPE, were invited personally to perform at Jamie Oliver’s The Big Feastival and now draw sellout crowds to both Brighton and London venues which have included The Barfly, The Bowery and the prestigious Abbey Road Studios.
With a history of time spent touring colleges and schools throughout the UK, the band have always been keen to engage with their fans as directly as possible and have an incredibly strong online influence through Twitter and Facebook. The Special Ks were invited to attend a number of launches and music award ceremonies celebrating live and emerging talent last year, including The Digital Music Awards, The Music and Sound Awards and the launch of Deezer where their attendance was promoted in national press publications.
The band described by Chase and Status as having ”Great songs, a really exciting band” will be putting out new tracks from their debut album BOA throughout 2012!
