Forming in 2008, the Statics wasted no time getting things started - writing, recording and releasing a debut album by mid 2008 (CandyPants Records), which was then followed by hundreds of hours in a 12 seater van playing every pub, club, radio station, school, dive, all ages festival and house party possible. “We didn’t want to play it safe. We didn’t just wanna be another ‘myspace’ or ‘weekend’ band. We figured fuck it! Lets record an album, get in the van and sell some discs and if we’re lucky a t-shirt or two!” bassist Pat McKenna explains. With no management or booking agent, building a fan base is near impossible in Melbourne but this only fuels the bands motivation further. “We handed out close to five thousand CDs last year out the front of our gigs and other bands gigs. Basically, anything to get people aware of the band and hopefully enjoying our songs as much as we do.” 2009 has been a frustrating yet rewarding year for the band. Line-up changes are never easy but the band was adamant not to let it get the better of them. “I remember one night after trying out some awful bedroom guitarist saying to Pat, ‘Dude, we’ve gotta do something creative or we’re gonna go insane!’” And that’s when the idea came up of doing a covers album. “It’s basically our way of paying tribute to the many awesome bands that have influenced and inspired us over the years... But also just to do something fun and creative. Just keeping shit simple!” - The Band's Myspace
