album : The Unusual Suspects
---------------------------------------------------
3 - After having disappeared for the latter part of 2006, The Unusual Suspects are gearing up to hit the road harder than ever before.
2005 saw the band release their professional debut EP, "Phonograph." It included numerous songs that received radio-play across the Southeast. In order to keep the momentum going, the band hit the road playing shows all over the region.
Their "Phonograph" tour run had them sharing the bill with bands like Flickerstick (Winner of VH1 Bands on the Run), Scratchtrack, Shawn Mullins, Left Front Tire, and Sugarcult, Early November, and Hawthorne Heights as part of the "Take Action Tour." The band returned home and shifted their attention to writing the follow-up record to "Phonograph."
They went into the studio and were set to release their second record of 2005; however, due to problems beyond the band's control, they made the decision to scrap the entire record.
"It was just not coming out the way we wanted it. The producer we were working with was not putting the time and effort into the project that we felt it deserved. So we came out with what we felt were more like demo recordings rather than a follow-up record," says singer/songwriter matt megrue.
After making the decision to scrap the next record, the band continued to play live while still writing for what would be the eventual follow-up record.
Finally, in mid-2006 the band hit the studio with a bigger budget and a different producer. What has come out is a bigger, more "arena" sounding album, says megrue.
"It's a bigger sound for us. Big drums, big guitars, big melodies. It's such an exciting time. This albums feels like an arena album..."
After a moment of thought he is quick to correct himself. "Not arena like, cock rock, but more like we as a band feel these songs deserve a big forum to be heard."
With the release of their next album looming for 2007, the band is also making plans to record their first full-length record, all while touring throughout the year.
