The Wildcards is a Plymouth based blues/rock band consisting of two members of Vince Lee and the Big Combo, Vince Lee (vocals, guitar), and Al Wallis (bass, backing vocals), and two former members of The Nightporters, Martin Vowles (guitar, vocals), and Kevin Crowe (drums, backing vocals). The band formed in 2003 when Martin and Kevin stumbled upon a Vince Lee and the Big Combo gig and, being impressed by their ability, set out to make a new band following the split of their previous group. Since then the band have played numerous gigs across Europe, including performances at Moulin Blues Festival in Holland, Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival, Blues On The Farm Festival, Gevarenwinkel Blues Festival, Belgium plus other shows in countries such as Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France and the UK. Since their formation, The Wildcards have released 2 full-length albums; On Fire! (2004) and Raising Hell (2007), with both gaining positive reviews. The band had the honour being the band for the the late Gary Primich, considered one of the greatest harmonica players of his time, for his European tour. Currently the band are playing a number of gigs around the UK, building an already positive reputation thanks to some strong reviews, radio plays, aswell as being voted 7th best CD of 2007 by the readers of Blues Matters! Magazine UK, in their TOP 50 BLUES ALBUMS OF 2007. February 2010 Hello! Well, what an insane, intense few weeks it's been! We're glad to report that the album is well and truly finished and sounding quite amazing. We didn't realise it at the time but strangely enough we finished the album on the brightest full-moon of the year! Honestly! It's now easy to see that it stands apart from our previous recordings, mainly because of its up-tempo, relentless and experimental sound. The few people who've heard the album all think it's the strongest and most interesting material we've recorded and we won't argue with that. We're very proud of it. The artwork has once more been a real labour of love for Vince. He could always be found hunched over in the control room of the studio, perfecting his illustrations as we mixed and then mastered the album. The end result is quite spectacular! We've decided to present the CD as a fold out cardboard digi-pak to give us maximum room for the artwork. The digi-paks will be finished in a high gloss coating as should look fantastic. The CDs are being printed and pressed as we speak and will be available to buy from Monday 22 February...just in time for our European tour!
