BIOG:
In mid March 2009 two friends got together to make some music. Sick of the traditional rock band format and weary of the egocentric arguments and feuds that it can breed they decided to write, play and get back to the simple pleasure of creating songs. They decided that a collective vibe was needed. They would play and if people wanted to join in and add something to the mix then so much the better. With that The Woven Project was born. and are a set of moving folk tinged songs began to take shape. They were invited to play at a local deli/bar and went down a storm in the packed intimate venue.
Comparisons as varied as Radiohead, Tom McCrae and The Unbelievable Truth were made and the two friends realised that they were on the right track. High profile gigs in the region swiftly followed including the Cosmos stage at Middlesbrough Music Live of which they graced the same stage with bands like the Goldheart Assembly, Beth Jeans Houghton and Mike Heron and really felt they held thier own and deserved to be there.
Since then they have travelled further a field with gigs in Leeds, Newcastle, Sunderland, Manchester, Durham and London, also securing support gigs with Jesca Hoop and King Creosote, Grand Archives, Goldheart Assembly, Stornoway, The Unthanks and even busier this summer with some great festivals including, Middlesborugh Music Live, Stockton Riverside Fringe, Tall Ships Festival in Hartlepool and Willowman in North Yorkshire and Solfest in Cumbria. And will have notched up over 70 gigs in 15 months by the end of august.
The Woven Project recently finished 12th from 658 bands in the recent Greenman Festival Poll, for a DIY band that has no financial backing, corporate sponsorhip, management or record company, we did pretty well, considering most of the bands who finished in the top ten, had all those things to support them.
The collective set up of The Woven Project means that when they play live it can be as a two, three, four or even seven piece ensemble, which gives them a unique flexibility, can play completely unplugged and acoustic or full on electric. This means that the songs are always changing and developing, The set mutates as different people add their parts and leave their mark sonically on the music.
As well as their gigs THe Woven Project have built up a healthy online presence, and are featured on all the leading social and music networking sets, collectively having almost 13000 friends and fans.
Recently singed to Mad Hatter Agency who will be looking after all our live media performances from January 2010.
