Chris Athorne, Lee Wilkins, Mark Willis and Nikk Butcher are This Boy Wonders. At the start of 2011 This Boy Wonders have been together for just over 2 years. Front man Chris Athorne had been writing songs for 2 years when the opportunity came to take his music to the next level with a full band and he hasn't looked back. Since then, the band has recorded three EPs. The first, released back in 2009 entitled ‘Chasing Rainbows’, was a very different sound from now, with a folk/ acoustic feel that runs through the record. However, crowd pleasers such as ‘Chasing Rainbows’ and ‘Home’, are still played in their live sets as it was these songs that gained the band support from BBC introducing back in 2009. The second EP ‘Frame by Frame’ was released in 2010 and moved the sound of TBW forward. With heavier guitar riffs and drum beats being played throughout on songs such as ‘As I Go Now’ and with an “epic” feel on the track ‘Phoenix’ the band gained new supporters. However Frame by Frame still carried a very acoustic feel with the songs ‘Save all your Loving’ and especially ‘Ghosts’ which is essentially a traditional folk song. ‘Midnight Writer’ is the third EP in the TBW collection and was released in 2011. This demo presents the band in a new light and carries a heavy blues and rock influenced sound that represents a new maturity with the song writing. Midnight Writer took only 2 days from start to finish and and was recorded ‘Live’. This has resulted in bringing across an energetic feel and demonstrates what This Boy Wonders bring to their live performances. The overall sound represents a huge leap from ‘Frame by Frame’ and has the band's music being compared to the likes of Kings of Leon and Bob Dylan.
