Twenty year old singer/songwriter Thomas McConnell has become a well-respected and well-liked musician on the Liverpool music scene. A multi-talented musician, he has also played a number of venues around the country.
Thomas has just released a new EP called, “Worried About Thomas McConnell” which features 4 tracks and is getting great reviews. This follows a successful publicity campaign for the EP where people would post photos online holding a sign saying “I’m worried about Thomas McConnell…”. In December 2013 he completed a UK tour to promote the EP supporting Ian McNabb (The Icicle Works) and Brighton-based band, The Vinyls.
Thomas’ music-making takes influence from the great British pop/rock legacy of the 60s and 70s. His tunes are melodic and catchy, quirky and experimental. His love for the music of The Beatles led to a request from Ian McNabb to arrange, produce and play all the instruments on a cover of The Beatles’, “All I’ve Got To Do” commissioned and featured in Mojo magazine (August 2013). Thomas also put out a secret Beatles’ covers album for tourists and fans to find at various Beatles related locations throughout the summer. He is also the latest model for Beatwear - a Liverpool-based, Beatles-inspired clothing shop.
A major boost to Thomas’ profile followed after he posted a video of himself covering Paul McCartney’s recent single, “New” on the day it came out. Paul’s guitarist Brian Ray tweeted about it and it exploded around the internet. The story received coverage in the Liverpool Echo which led to Paul McCartney himself sharing the video on his official Twitter and Facebook accounts - the video got 20,000 views in just over a week from the ex-Beatle’s endorsement.
In 2012, Thomas was hand-chosen by China Crisis to support them on their anniversary tour and more recently, he has been supporting Ian McNabb on his recent tour. He also provided backing vocals to Ian Prowse’s version of Bruce Springsteen’s, “Rosilita” for a charity-single. Thomas has a 10 strong song set on soundcloud which has reached nearly 30,000 plays and attracted over 2,600 followers. He also creates all his own artwork.
Thomas’ debut EP and eponymous single, Stop in the Shade was released towards the end of 2012 and his music has had airplay on radio stations including BBC Radio Merseyside and BBC6 Music, and countless online stations. A raft of interviews and local internet TV channel chats has also kept him busy.
