Violentango

Violentango is an Argentine contemporary tango group formed in 2004 by five young musicians. The line-up is Santiago Córdoba on percussion, Adrián Ruggiero on bandoneon and guitar, Camilo Cordoba on guitar, Juan Manuel López on guitar, and Ricardo Jusid on bass. The band manages itself.

Style and repertoire

The group works with traditional tango forms but presents them with a modern approach, using improvisation, new sounds and rhythms, and energetic arrangements. Its repertoire includes interpretations of tango themes such as “Barceluna”, “Menos Sol”, “Libertango” and “A Fuego Lento”.

Activity and releases

Violentango tours internationally and appears at world music, jazz, tango and rock festivals. Its “Rock de Nylon” concept presents tango in a direct, passionate form rather than a tourist style. The album includes a majority of the band’s own compositions and presents a further development of its tango sound.

Recognition

The group has completed numerous tours around the world, has sold more than 30,000 CDs, and is declared of Cultural and Artistic Interest by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Culture. It also plays at major events including Glastonbury.
