WIBIDI is the new project founded by Super Furry Animals members Daf and Cian. For three consecutive days in August there will be the chance to see them in action as they bring WIBIDI to three Cardiff venues, small in comparison to the venues that the Super Furry Animals inhabit, they're back to the street, starting afresh with something very special... Here it begins. Wibi meets Daf, Daf gets smashed and records Wibi, Kris hears the results, Kris initiates recording and band the rest .. well.. This is the general creation story for a new musical collaboration from some of the city's top musicians, including Super Furry Animals members Daf Ieuan, Guto Pryce and Cian Ciaran. At the helm is also one of Cardiff's most colourful characters. Rashid Omar aka Wibidee as he is known to friends, was born and raised in Butetown aka Tigerbay. Early musical influnces ranged from Fats Dominoe, Bob Marley and Mud to T Rex, Bowie and The Jackson 5. He started singing in order to make his family, namely his mother Aunty Fatima to all, and friends proud and to fulfill a childhood ambition. A brief encounter with Daf Ieuan (SFA) saw the beginnings of a new musical enterprise calling on the talents of longtime friend Kris Jenkins (The Peth), Guto Pryce (SFA), Drumpton Ward (Black Uhuru/The Wailers), Yussef Mohamed and Arran Ahmun (John Martin). Wibi has been writing and recording for the new ep ‘Wibidi Street' including songs ‘I've got a car', ‘Suicide Baby', ‘Lockdown' and ‘Wibidi Street'. Drawing heavily on the musical and cultural diversity of the Butetown area Wibidi has forged a sound clash of Reggae, Punk and Funk.
