Cheltenham Music Festival

With variety at the heart of its programme, the Cheltenham Music Festival has been celebrated and organised for over 70 years. The festival offers wide range of orchestral, chamber, choral and solo music as well as workshops, talks and related events giving visitors the opportunity to find out more about and appreciate the wide varying range of classical music.

As well as the main festival, the Cheltenham Music Festival has a lively Fringe which includes world music and dance as well as classical.

The festival’s long and illustrious history means it has been home to a wide range of premiere events, 22 in fact including works by Graham Fitkin, Rolf Hind and Joe Cutler. The first festival took place in 1945 at the end of World War Two and features music by Britten, Shostakovich and Messiaen amongst others.

The festival is designed to offer something for visitors of all ages with a children’s events, with live painting and animated musicals and classical shorts. The festival also includes a Family Day in the city’s Imperial Gardens.
