An irregular night, inspired by music's independent thinkers...
It's Irregular, and it's not Folk music. Folk means people, people doing something different, and thinking independently. Irregular Folks is about programming great, unique music and at times other art forms that will open eyes and ears. We love music, film, poetry and comedy that truly inspires, and LOVE to take risks in introducing people to artists they may not have ever heard of before as well as ones already known. We push boundaries. All artists are carefully handpicked from dedicated gig and festival going. We do NOT do support slots, all artists ARE headliners - it pays to turn up from the start. We don't have to do this night, that's another reason why it's irregular and why we only put on what we really believe in. It only happens when the right line up and right place comes together.
Artists to date have included Yorkston/Thorne/Khan, Bastardgeist, Jessica Sligter, C Duncan, Laura J Martin, Laura Moody, You Are Wolf, Tina Turner Tea Lady, Stealing Sheep, Paul Foot, Wooden Arms, Sing-A-Long-A-Wickerman, Gravenhurst, Ben See, George Chopping, The Irrepressibles, Lowpines, Waterpageant, French for Rabbits, The May Birds, Duotone, Alabaster dePlume, Jess Hall, Caitlin Park, Steady Hands, Emma Gatrill, The Little Unsaid, Gitta de Ridder, Hauz Khas Connection, Fraeda, Maia, The Ralph Band, Beth Porter and the Availables, Steph West, Whiskey Moonface, and many more...
Other Artists that inspire us: The Knife, Adult Jazz, FKA Twigs, Agnes Obel, WHY?, Daniel Kitson, Peter Broderick, Owen Pallett, Bonnie Prince Billy, Jenny Hyval, Smog, Low, Julia Holter, Wild Birds and Peacedrums, Beach House, Nico Muhly, Rachel Unthank and the Winterset (that era in particular), Bleeding Heart Narrative (RIP), Sigur Rós, Animal Collective, Matmos, Maddy Prior, Lisa Knapp, Iron and Wine, Sufjan Stevens, Dirty Projectors, Cat Power and...so much more...
And the setting. Musicians and their team work hard to create and deliver music so we work hard to create a beautiful place for musicians to perform it in. It's important to us that each of our nights becomes a jewel in the memory crown for all. Ahem, hmmm "memory crown!?" sorry, it sounded right at the time. It's on a budget so don't expect bells and whistles - although we could probably afford those - but we hope it goes some way towards creating a great space, with as high quality sound as we can afford for the audiences and musicians to really get into the spirit of a very special evening, and a team that are really enjoying what they do.
