Noisily is about friendship, equality, love, passion, nature and community. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither do the 4,000 people who descend on The Coney Woods each July. It’s fun in all its forms, pure and unadulterated. Offering an alternative to mainstream festival culture, an inclusive haven where underground music thrives and self expression flourishes.
Whilst rooted in the electronic music scenes, Noisily is a holistic environment which feeds the mind, body and soul. It’s a celebration of psychedelic art and culture in a society which is increasingly looking within for happiness and fulfilment, and away from material goods and money as the definition of success.
We have an amazing, receptive and intelligent community of people who we aim to mobilise through transformational experience and creative expression. By inspiring personal growth and social responsibility via the medium of art, music and healing, we hope to empower the individual to affect real positive change in the world.
Our Values
Friendship
Noisily was founded by four close friends in the autumn of 2011, opening its gates for the first time at the end of May 2012. Our basic united intention was to create more than just a party, but an experience that would provide countless transient moments of happiness for both friends and strangers. Over the years the festival has grown, and these moments have multiplied exponentially alongside. Lifelong friendships have been forged between those who have joined the team along the way, and many more who come as ticket buyers each July.
Equality
The Coney Woods is flooded with characters each July, and it is our hope that all those who work with us towards our common goal, do so in an environment void of prejudice and preconceptions. When working in an environment as permissive and equal as Noisily, it is easy to forget the struggles of race, gender and sexual orientation which affect so many people on a global scale. We hope that in creating a place where everyone is welcome and encouraged to thrive in themselves, that it will resonate out into society and challenge the collective consciousness of the antiquated establishment.
Love
“The world is a wonderfully weird place, consensual reality is significantly flawed, no institution can be trusted, certainty is a mirage, security a delusion, and the tyranny of the dull mind forever threatens — but our lives are not as limited as we think they are, all things are possible, laughter is holier than piety, freedom is sweeter than fame, and in the end it’s love and love alone that really matters.” – Tom Robbins
From the founders of the festival, through the operations and site team, to the artists, creators, therapists and healers who work tirelessly throughout the year, it is all done for love. A love of the process, a love of each other, and a love for a world we are yet to see realised. We love the way the festival makes us feel, because we love the way it makes others feel. We love being part of something which other people understand, which sparks genuine compassion in total strangers, and which breaks down barriers allowing the exchange of love without hindrance.
Passion
Noisily is a passion project, and the sum of its value lies in the relationships forged upon our dance floors, in the bosom of our healing area, and in the year round work put in by our tirelessly loyal team. Passion is by definition ‘a strong and barely controllable emotion’, and that is what we see year in year out from all those involved in manifesting the collective vision of what Noisily is.
“I see the passion in others as I walk around site during the build, and then during the festival in those who attend, this is something which can be harnessed and used to affect positive change in society via the medium of content we present at the event and throughout the year. Noisily should go beyond the woods, and it can.”
– Charles Audley, Noisily co-founder
Nature
Since visiting for the first time in September 2011, when Noisily was a unrealised dream, our immediate resolve was to honour the natural surroundings. We wanted to create the perfect party and simultaneously protect the flora and fauna of our beautiful site in the Leicestershire hills. A festival in the woods, not on them.
Behind the scenes we have made many steps over the years towards a more environmentally friendly event, but the most important element in our success is the cooperation of our ticket buyers. The mass-consciousness of our Noisily festival family makes it all possible, and this was clearly displayed when at 1pm on Monday after the festival in 2017, just an hour after the final campers left the site, there wasn’t a single piece of rubbish visible in the campsite. We have never been to a festival site in the UK where this has been the case, in fact it is sadly generally the exact opposite.
We are moving towards a plastic free festival in 2019, and in 2018 are banning the sale or use of single use plastics across site by traders, contributors and artists. This extends to building materials, cutlery and kitchenwares, and any biodegradable items need to breakdown without the use of external force such as anaerobic digestion or pyrolysis.
Beyond our plastics policy we have developed our ‘Looking After the Woods Program’, a complete environmental initiative covering everything from waste management, carbon taxes for cars and campervans, tree planting across the estate, and how we plan on making the event more sustainable in the future.
Community
The people who work for us are Noisily’s greatest asset. Each year we descend on the woods and work alongside with friends, and it upon these foundations that we base the whole ethos and execution of the festival. We produce Noisily for each other, and we all work hard throughout the year and at the event to honour the efforts of those involved.
There are inevitably moments of stress whilst working long hours, and on occasion tempers get frayed in every area and at every level of the event. It is our hope that in articulating our collective feelings as the festival management, that we can convey our intentions and impress upon those working with us just how invaluable they are to Noisily, to us as individuals, and as a collective of people working towards a common goal.
Our Cornerstone
Fun. Because there’s no fear when you’re having fun. It’s more fun when you’re not the only one having it. If it’s not fun it’s not worth doing, and when fun gets deep enough, it can heal the world.
Nature is at the core of our ethos, and protecting it our number one priority. As a result we have a dedicated ‘Looking After the Woods’ program that ensures the event is kept sustainable, the environment is looked after, and we recycle waste and offset carbon where possible.
