SAMHUINN FIRE FESTIVAL brings the Celtic New Year to a modern audience, who witness the ritual struggle between the Summer and Winter Kings that brings the warm sunny months to a close. The dramatic stand-off between the two seasons is embodied by a vivid mix of fireplay, drumming, and acrobatics, with the mysterious Cailleach ultimately deciding each King’s fate.
The festival takes place on Calton Hill in Edinburgh on the night of Hallowe'en each year, and is organised by hundreds of volunteers who are part of the historic Beltane Fire Society.
