Supernormal Festival 2017 Now approaching its eighth incarnation in the beatific Oxfordshire realm of Braziers Park, Supernormal is the destination for adventurous audiences keen to experience something that transcends the increasingly formulated and predictable realm of the summer festival.
Here, a maverick, forward-thinking and transformative plethora of arts, music, performance and sound collides and coalesces to manifest a creative landscape in which new vistas emerge and new extremes are nurtured, amidst an arena where artist and audience alike can delight in the same freedom of expression and iconoclastic spirit of innovation. Now as ever, we’ll be doing our utmost to expand and evolve, and working on a variety of adjuncts and diversions that blur and dissolve boundaries between modes of expression and artistry.
Without further ado, this year, we’re delighted to reveal the following diverting, delightful and disquieting (delete as appropriate) souls to Braziers Park for the first weekend of August - Ghanaian monarchs, Tyneside industrial pioneers, Japanese psychedelic legends, and all manner of other exhilarating and otherworldly acts vying for supremacy and set to both stimulate and destroy the braincells.
JOHN BENCE - STEVE BERESFORD - BRUXA MARIA - ERIC CHENAUX - CHOP CHOP - COUM FLAKES - DEAD RAT ORCHESTRA & JAMES HOLCOMBE ‘TYBURNIA’ - KELLY JAYNE JONES - C JOYNES - KING AYISOBA - SHARRON KRAUSS - LEFT HAND CUTS OFF THE RIGHT - LONE TAXIDERMIST - PAPER DOLLHOUSE - PIKACYU*MAKOTO - RAPID TAN - JOANNE ROBERTSON - SILVER WAVES - THE STALLION - TIRITILAKOPS - UKAEA - -COLIN WEBSTER & ANDREW CHEETHAM - YEAH YOU - ZAIMPH - :ZOVIET*FRANCE: - STRANGE ATTRACTOR PRESENTS: UNICAZURN, HOWLROUND & TELEPLAMISTE
This is only one small piece of the puzzle, and we’ll be returning very soon with a whole host of arts projects, installations, exhibits, films and interventions, alongside a programme of talks, presentations, activities and participatory workshops for all ages to get involved in.
Supernormal continues to take the countercultural lineage of its location and use it to expand and metamorphosise the festival paradigm into something new and inspiring. Amidst a political and cultural climate hellbent on fighting an ideological struggle for profit at the expense of creativity, altruism and artistry, we’re all the more determined to refuse and resist. Between thought and expression, to become the supernatural, one must first be Supernormal.
