Now the lads are heading up to not only their own home routes, but also to many other British cities on their ‘Takeaway On Tour’.
Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (better known for as ‘Ant & Dec’) are quite possibly the United Kingdom’s most popular duo. Not only does the Geordie pair have a successful career stretching back to over two decades ago, but in more recent years they are known for keeping many households in England thoroughly entertained. Along with hosting ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ and ‘Britains Got Talent’ their own television show ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ is a justified reason to spend that one weekend evening in.
Now the lads are heading up to not only their own home routes, but also to many other British cities on their ‘Takeaway On Tour’.
Tonight upon taking my seat in London’s O2 Arena I am full of hopes that a whole lot of humour, multiple fun-filled antics and just maybe, some surprises will all be on the schedule…And my word, are there a lot of these. After entering the packed arena through the back doors, the twosome walked through the crowd, greeting thrilled fans on their way to reaching the stage.
In part one of the evening they were joined by celebrity friends Paddy McGuinness of ITV’s ‘Take Me Out’, 90’s hit Chesney Hawkes, ITV2 ‘IACGMOOH Now!’ presenters Joe Swash and Laura Whitmore, plus ex-The Pussycat Dolls member and Take-Out regular, Ashley Roberts. Peter Andre was also present tonight as the guest announcer.
Genuinely positive interaction with ticket buyers occurred throughout. Massive wins for lucky members of the audience were given out too, including one lady who was ecstatic after bagging a car in the ‘Win The Ads’ game at the end of the night when she answered the final question correctly.
The first of the two ‘Ant Vs Dec’ challenges involved each of them sitting a test on educational subjects. After spending a day learning facts at a nearby London school, Ant proved triumphant – to the disappointment of ‘Team Dec’ who had been equally divided onto one side of the room. As the interval approached an exceptional Riverdance group hit the stage, along with two new additions.
In part two a dance-off between four selected members of the public turned out to be utterly hilarious, as were scenes of Ant and Dec stuffing as many crisps into their own mouths as they could. Laughable footage of when Little Ant and Dec met pop-charters, Little Mix also followed.
The ‘Super Computer’ made an appearance, as did another ‘Ant Vs Dec’ mission, of which Ant won in the tiebreaker round. Finally, the big finale and ‘End of the Show, Show’ included an energetic performance of the anticipated ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rumble’ and a smashing cover of ‘Bring Me Sunshine’.
Stepping out from behind a camera in a studio and onto a much bigger stage was a brave move, but definitely a right and very smart one.
‘Ant and Dec’s Takeaway On Tour’ finishes in Dublin on September 13th.
