As part of the milestone celebrations and for the first time, BBC Radio 6 Music has chosen some of the most outstanding live sessions to have been recorded over the station’s 10 year history, all brought together on one complete compilation album - This Is BBC Radio 6 Music Live.
The album features an amazing selection of live sessions and tracks include Elbow ‘Leaders of the Free World’, Paul Weller ‘That Dangerous Age’, Arcade Fire ‘Keep the Car Running’, The Killers ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’, The Vaccines ‘Wreckin’ Bar (Ra Ra Ra)’, Florence + The Machine ‘Dog Days Are Over’, Lana Del Rey ‘Video Games’, Alabama Shakes ‘Mama’ plus many more.
BBC Radio 6 Music is renowned for championing the best music, showcasing the hottest upcoming talent and acting as an influential platform to break new artists onto the UK music scene. Back in 2010, the station was saved from closure after huge public outcry. Music fans and celebrity supporters united as part of the ‘Save BBC Radio 6 Music Campaign’ including Coldplay, Emily Eavis and David Bowie, who said: “6 Music keeps the spirit of broadcasters like John Peel alive and for new artists to lose this station would be a great shame.” Over half of the tracks featured on this incredible album would never have been recorded in this way had the station closed.
6 Music is home to presenters Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, Cerys Matthews, Huey Morgan, Shaun Keaveny, Mark Radcliffe, Stuart Maconie, Jarvis Cocker and more. The station was awarded the title ‘National Station of the Year’ at the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards 2012.
