Playground Festival Announce All-female Line-up

Playground Festival has today, on International Women’s Day, announced its latest wave of female artists – completing its all-female line-up on the second day of the festival.

Joining legendary singer Neneh Cherry and Scottish electro-pop outfit CHVRCHES, organisers have announced that Grammy-nominated singer/ songwriter, Kelis, will perform her award winning album Kaleidoscope on the main stage. She will be supported with performances from Scots singer Stephanie Cheape, Natasha Kitty Katt, and Scarlett Randle.

Taking place in Glasgow’s Rouken Glen park on July 31st, August 1stand 2nd, Playground Festival will be Scotland’s only major festival to boast a female headline actand an entire day’s programme dedicated to female talent.

Talking about being part of the all-female line-up, Neneh Cherry commented: “I am so excited to be coming to Scotland and headlining Playground Festival. I would like to thank the festival organisers for committing an entire day to nurturing and showcasing female talent. It's so encouraging to see that things are beginning to shift; I hope that other major festivals take note and organisers work towards more inclusive line-ups.”

In its entirety, the event will boast a 45% female line-up. Last year, on average women made up 26% of the festival line-ups in the UK.

A festival spokesperson added, “While we will be the only Scottish festival with an entire day dedicated to women, we recognise the challenges presented to support equality and diversity within the festival circuit. We still have a little way to go to hit a 50/50 balance, but we are absolutely committed to working towards that.”

Set within 200,000 square feet of luscious gardens and woods, the inaugural Playground Festival – held last summer - attracted more than 14,000 revellers who enjoyed unforgettable performances from international acts including Groove Armada, Hot Chip, Django Django and Anna Calvi.

In addition to a carefully curated ‘Food Forest’, Playground Festival 2020 also promises to be a family-friendly affair thanks to Mini Manoeuvres who will be on-site all weekend providing face-painting, soft play, dancing and games for the little ones. The festival will also feature aerial acrobatic performers, a craft beer area and a dedicated gin garden.

Playground Festival 2020 will take place on Friday 31stJuly, Saturday 1stand Sunday 2ndAugust in Rouken Glen Park in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.
