Festival Crowd Header
Mykal Rose

The 8th Annual One Love Festival – is the only celebration of Dub and Reggae Music as a Festival in United Kingdom – a coming together of Culture, Music and Roots, Dub, Foundation Ska and Reggae.

We are very excited to announce first wave of artist announcements:

Mykal Rose:

For over 25 years, Mykal Rose has been recording and performing his brand of militant, hardcore Jamaican music to the delight of reggae fans around the world. He is a Grammy award winning reggae star from Jamaica. He joined Black Uhuru in 1977 and while seemingly at the top of his game, he parted ways mid 1980’s as a successful solo artist in his own right. Possessing a wide-ranged voice, Rose would regularly meet in Kingston with singers, musicians, writers, and producers such as Dennis Brown, Big Youth, The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Sly and Robbie, So popular was his trademark sound that singers like Don Carlos, Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, and others embraced it as the “Waterhouse” sound.

‘Vernone Maytone’ - The Maytones:

The Maytones is still one of those highly regarded names in the history of reggae music and upon listening to what they recorded in the golden era it’s easy to see why. Pearl after pearl, the group delivered the goods time and time again. A word like ‘timeless’ is truly a cliché in describing the sweet two-male harmony sounds of this group, but it fits perfectly when talking of The Maytones work from that period and many other constellations of their ilk. The Maytones was just one of many excellent duos from Jamaica that sprung from the early reggae era, with the difference that they stayed on top for a longer time than most competitors at the time.

Dennis ‘Black Beard’ Bovell and the Dub Natty Sessions

Dennis Bovell has earned himself the reputation of being Britain’s reggae maestro, from pioneering early developments in the genre over 20 years ago to producing classic hits. He is renowned as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, bass and keyboards), sound engineer, composer, band leader and producer and continues to lead the UK scene with innovative and adventurous music.

Triston Palma

Triston Palma is a reggae singer/deejay. He has been active since the mid-1970s. His first recording was “Love Is A Message” for producer Bunny Lee when he was eight years old, which was followed by “A-Class Girl” for the Black Solidarity label, which was co-run by Palma and Ossie Thomas. Palma made a major breakthrough with his performance in 1979 at the General Penitentiary Memorial Concert for Claudie Massop, which also featured Bob Marley. At one point in the early 1980s, Palma had nine songs in Jamaica’s Top 40.They included his biggest career hit, the dancehall influenced “Entertainment” produced by Nkrumah Jah Thomas

Little Roy

Like most aspiring singers of the time Earl ended up at the door of Studio One. He was thirteen years old when after school one day he followed two friends to the studio to meet with the late Jackie Mittoo. Jackie asked Earl to come back the next day and voice a tune over a rhythm. The youth returned with a song he had learnt from his brother who, when watering the family garden, had made up the lyrics of “Cool It”. The cut was released in 1965 on Studio 1. Then Earl went on to strike lucky with Prince Buster, who rechristened the youth as Little Roy, and together they produced the first Little Roy 45s. Fast forward to May 2011 Little Roy hit the studio to reinterpret ten Nirvana tracks that were largely foreign to him, and the result was the best Reggae covers album of the century. A collaboration with Prince Fatty and the Mutant Hi-Fi was released to critical acclaim on September 2011 on Ark Recordings.

Little Roy embraced the genius and the humanity of Kurt’s songwriting. He truly visits everything from Kurt’s perspective and it gives the old lyrics and melodies wonderful new life. It’s quite clear that each song was approached from a place of love and respect, on the team, ‘Battle For Seattle’ was never going to be anything other than totally authentic. However, the album has prompted joy and admiration from everyone that’s heard it, on both sides of the musical fence – reggae, and rock.
