SummerTyne Americana Festival is pleased to announce The Mavericks, Heritage Blues Orchestra, Mud Morganfield, Patty Griffin, Matthew E White, Shelby Lynne and Willy Mason for its 2013 event.

SummerTyne Americana Festival offers a sizzling gumbo of American roots music - from fiery tex-mex to classic country and blues, the newest southern soul and Americana, then some down-home cajun and bluegrass.  Taking place on the south side of the River Tyne, in and around the iconic music venue The Sage Gateshead, it promises a selection of the best Americana music in one of the most stunning city locations in the world!

The Mavericks are BACK! Hot on the Cuban heels of Raul Malo’s sensational orchestral concert with Northern Sinfonia at SummerTyne 2011 it is thrilling to have him back this year, fronting his original band and on the back of their smash hit reunion album ‘In Time’. Also heading up the main stage is the newest, most exciting, horn-laden blues powerhouse The Heritage Blues Orchestra, on an electrifying bill with Mud Morganfield, (eldest son of Muddy Waters). Elsewhere in the programme we celebrate some of the finest women in Country Music with concerts by Patty Griffin, Shelby Lynne and Larkin Poe but also an especially commissioned concert called,  ‘Honky Tonk Angels,’ after the hit song by vintage country queen Kitty Wells, which features current Nashville country star Elizabeth Cook, Opry Legend Jan Howard, the huge voice of Yolanda Quartey (Phantom Limb) and a host of other  special guests paying homage to the classic female stars of country music. Also, on the bill showcasing his hugely acclaimed album ‘Big Inner’ with its southern soul sounds will be Matthew E White and current hot-ticket New York singer-songwriter Willy Mason.

With an incredible FREE outdoor stage bill including among many others, The David Wax Museum, Tom Russell and Polly & The Billets Doux,  cajun suppers with Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, musical boat trips up the River Tyne, a come-and- sing community gospel choir, film programme and an exclusive exhibition of art work by Jon Langford of The Mekons entitled ‘Nashville Radio’, is there any place you’d rather be this summer than south of the River Tyne?

Tickets on sale from Friday 22 March, 10am from: www.thesagegateshead.org  or The Sage Gateshead Ticket Office:  0191 443 4661
