In the popular realm of indie/ folk/ pop, following in the footsteps of great sibling bands such as; First Aid Kit, Haim, The Corrs and Wilson Phillips, Australia’s Germein Sisters are a young, fresh trio comprising of sisters Georgia, Ella and Clara
The sisters capture the spirit of Australian pop culture, singing catchy songs full of sunshine, with a lot of heart, a little bit of country and a whole lot of love.
The band became fully formed in 2012 after spending their childhood jamming together on their family’s bushland property in the Adelaide Hills. Following the girls’ first show as a three piece in their South Australian hometown, it was clear that there was something magical about to happen. Passionate songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Georgia (vocals, guitar, piano), together with her classically trained sister Ella (electric cello, bass, backing vocals) and self taught drummer Clara (drums, guitar, backing vocals) blended their harmonies perfectly, with an intangible closeness unique to siblings. Their infectious songs and upbeat performances immediately started attracting public attention. It wasn’t long before they were noticed by Irish producer Billy Farrell, who had worked with chart topping bands The Corrs and Westlife to name a few. Together with the assistance of Jealoustown Studio’ Stuart Gray, the girls released their debut album in Australia and Europe to much celebration and critical acclaim.
As well as being talented musicians, the girls have a social conscience, unique to individuals of such a young age. Keen surfers and lovers of animals, Germein Sisters are Ambassadors for World Vision Australia, and are proud to use their music to promote positive messages to young people. Lead vocalist and songwriter Georgia Germein is a carer for orphaned kangaroo joeys through Fauna Rescue SA, and is known for her extensive charity work for disadvantaged communities in South Africa and Nepal. Georgia’s song writing awards include being a finalist in the John Lennon Song writing Contest (NY). Her song ‘Take My Hand’ was selected for the South Australian Tourism Commission’s International Marketing Campaign. As a band the girls are steadily picking up momentum, getting local music and fringe festival awards, playing all around the world including; China, New Zealand, Uk, Australia, Switzerland & Germany. In 2014 they supported 3x Grammy Award Winning Band Jars of Clay from the USA and have opened for Sting & Paul Simon in Adelaide. Their irresistible charm and positive spirit is amassing an ever-growing global fan base.
The Germein Sisters will be playing an intimate gig in London on Wednesday 10th June, before heading down to The Isle of Wight Festival to play The Garden Stage on Friday June 12th 18.45 – 19.25 on the Hard Rock Café Stage. The festival also features a great line up of fellow artists including: Fleetwood Mac, Blur, The Black Keys, The Prodigy, First Aid Kit, Courteneers and You Me at Six to name only a few.
To coincide with their Isle of Wight performance, the girls have taken a selection of tracks from their recent Europe wide released album (as yet unreleased in the UK) and under the same name ‘Because you Breathe’ have created an EP exclusively for the UK, featuring some of the band and their fans favourites. The lead single from the EP ‘Golden’ starts with a serene sunrise moment, before gliding into a euphoric chorus that possesses soul cleansing honesty, followed by the free spirited ‘Da Da Doo’, which is already proving to be a popular number with 35,000 You Tube hits.
