GlobalGathering, the epic two-day electronic festival that was crowned Best Dance Event at the 2012 UK Festival Awards, today announces further details of the 2013 event. The line-up for each of the two explosive days can now be revealed.
With a widening diversity of music on offer to ensure every electronic music fan’s taste is catered for, we’re elevating the new generation of headliners and bringing together some of the world’s biggest superstars with critically acclaimed underground talent for you to discover in 2013. With further investment on production inspired by our global travels, we’ve ensured we’ll give our crowds the best overall experience at any UK festival this summer, with a collosal 18 arenas over the two days.
Friday 26th July
Storming the Main Stage Arena is the Brit superstar with more strings to his bow than the London Symphony Orchestra – Plan B, who will showcase both sides of his persona when he brings the soulfully bitter-sweet story of Strickland Banks to life alongside the brutally honest hip-hop journey of Ill Manors. He will be supported by two chart storming titans of UK electronic music, Disclosure and DnB quartet Rudimental, whose number 1 smasher Feel the Love was one of the tunes of summer 2012. Major Look and Hucci will also be in support.
Not only have GlobalGathering booked a plethora of world-class headliners, but they have also revamped a brand new Main Stage Arena. Constructed by world renowned production company 250K, the Main Stage is set to take the festival experience to a whole new level. The design, which will bring the ‘Industrial Cubism’ theme to life will create an all immersive and visually stunning view for ravers alike to get lost to the sounds of headlining artists like Plan B, Disclosure, Rudimental and many more.
Global are excited that the UK’s home of urban music, BBC Radio 1Xtra, will host an arena on Friday at this year’s festival. Global stalwart MistaJam, who will be joined by the Eskiboy and Godfather of Grime, Wiley plus special guests Roll Deep, will commandeer the 1Xtra Arena. Pioneer of the UK underground scene, leader of Roll Deep and original member of Boy Better Know, he will certainly be causing a heatwave when he takes to the mic. Chart-topping Rita Ora, whose debut album Ora reached number one in the UK, spawning three number one singles, making her the artist with the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart in 2012, will be making a special guest appearance. In addition to this comes support in the form of Dot Rotten, Matrix & Futurebound, K Koke (Live), DEVolution and Warm Up.
The UKF Bass Culture Arena returns for a second year with DJ Fresh headlining the area with his incredible Fresh/Live show. Pushing the boundaries of drum and bass and dubstep, Fresh Live combines the technique and hysteria of his DJ sets with the energy of a live instrumental performance. EDM prodigy and wonder kid Zedd will be making a special guest appearance. Rolling Stone named Zedd an ‘Artist to Watch’ for 2012, and more recently, MTV deemed him an ‘Artist to Watch’ for 2013. UK dubstep originator Benga will play alongside Flux Pavilion, plus Andy C & MC GQ and DnB pioneer and Digital Soundboy label owner Shy FX. Calyx & Teebee, Dimension and Subzee D are also in support.
This year Global welcomes a brand new addition to the site – the Chibuku Arena, ensuring Friday is not to be missed. Headlining this arena are the inventors of mash-up genre, brothers David and Stephen Dewael, better known as – 2manydjs. Pushing the boundaries of house and techno the brothers are sure to get the party started. Next up is hotly tipped solo and highly colorful producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED), who will be setting the crowd alight with his electro beats. Founding father of dubstep Skream will be making a special guest appearance. The Croydon DJ/producer is constantly refreshing his sound, from laying down twisted house and techno, to disco sets. They will see support from Bristol based DJ/producer and firm festival favourite Redlight who will be performing a brand new live show! Joining them will be remix master Erol Alkan and electro producer Fake Blood. Mele, Ejeca and Gorgon City will also be playing.
Godskitchen, one of the biggest dance brands on the planet, will once again be bringing the superstars of trance back to Global. Friday will see dance revolutionist Ferry Corsten, EDM king John O’Callaghan and trance legend Paul Oakenfold, pioneer of importing the Balearic scene to Britain, who will be making a special guest appearance. Orjan NIlsen, Cosmic Gate, Richard Durand, Omnia, Steve Arnold and Andy Moor who plays B2B with Lange complete the bill, with cutting edge production and an explosive atmosphere that is sure to whip fans into an uncontrollable frenzy. The Godskitchen arena will also feature on Saturday.
Taking the Godskitchen arena to an unbelievable level, the pioneering dance brand have worked with international production gurus 250k to develop a new audio visual spectacle – the Godskitchen Fusion Cube. This ground breaking new production concept will be showcased at GlobalGathering this summer creating a dance music experience like no other. It's the first time the cube has been in the UK and will be the only UK appearance this year. Those visiting the Godskitchen arena on both Friday and Saturday will be in for a real treat.
The astounding outer cube shaped structure is constructed using over 130 lighting fixtures, over 460m of LED strips, upwards of 150m2 LED screens coupled together with projection technology that combines state of the art visuals with a myriad of special effects. The DJ booth is integrated within another internal cube, forming an exclusive design that creates a truly immersive performance.
Also on Friday, we have Dutch house producer Nicky Romero, fresh off the back of his number one UK hit single with Avicii – I Could be the One, set to headline the return of the House Arena. He is joined by Dutch dance duo Bingo Players, architects of another UK number one single Get Up (Rattle), in collaboration with Far East Movement. Radio 1’s very own Dance Anthems supremo Danny Howard and Diffused Music’s Michael Woods bring up the rest of the bill with a special guest performance from Dutch trance and progressive house DJ Sander van Doorn. Micky Slim featuring Majestic and G Master Funk will also be in attendance.
Further arenas on Friday include The Digital Arena, which will bring the sounds of the deep house and tech scene with a performance from Mixmag’s DJ of 2012 Solomun, alongside breakthrough artist Scuba (LIVE) playing a live set. The mighty Sasha, following the drop of his new mix album ‘INVOLV3R’, will make a special guest appearance, alongside Seth Troxler, Heidi, Jesse Rose, Lewis Boardman and Maceo Plex.
The penultimate arena on Friday is Born Electric, the label owned and arena headlined by true titan of the scene James Zabiela, who will offer up an amalgam of experimental electro, harmonious house and the infectious techno synonymous with their releases. Other acts appearing include house producer Eats Everything who will be bringing both the old school and the eccentric. Tech-house duo Dusky will bring a futuristic feel and distinctly UK undergound edge. George Fitzgerald, Spectrasoul and Pedestrian complete the bill. GlobalGathering strives to promote and support the rising stars of the electronic dance music scene and Born Electric confirms this as it will play host to the names on everyone’s lips this summer:
And taking the arena to dizzy new heights, Born Electric will host in the all-new Global Freight Depot. Constructed from industrial freight containers, the Depot will feature state of the art projections and reflects a warehouse style sound enhancing experience.
Finally, hosting across the weekend is FutureGods. The pioneering brand, renowned for discovering unsigned new talent and sounds across the world promises to bring an array of the newest and rawest acts out there, from trap, to electro, to disco, to dubstep and beyond. On Friday, hailed the UK’s answer to Odd Future is Last Night in Paris with many more yet to be announced.
Not only this, but FutureGods will be hosting in The Bunker. The Bunker, unearthed by GlobalGathering, is an underground, secret and exclusive space. Hidden within the depths of Long Marston Airfield, the space will allow all notions of space and time to be suspended as the intimate and subterranean venue will create a festival experience like no other.
Saturday 27th July
Kicking off Saturday, music pioneer and headliner, Example jumps straight to the top of the Global food chain in his debut performance on the Main Stage at the festival. The crowds should expect nothing short of the most euphoric house beats and uplifting electro vibes, along with bassier elements of dubstep and hip-hop in the live show from the man who brought us the massive number one singles Changed the Way You Kissed Me and Stay Awake.
Grammy award winning DJ and producer Afrojack (aka Nick van de Wall) whos iconic sets are sure to be worshiped by house hungry fans, will also be playing Saturday on the Main Stage. As an ultimate pioneer of electronic dance music, festival goers can expect nothing less than a bass heavy set and a world class show. Very special guests and dubstep production group Nero (Live), will also join Afrojack. The dub royalty, who tore up the Metropolis arena in 2011 with remarkable rhythms, filthy beats and phenomenal production, and returned in 2012 to a rapturous welcome, are back this year. Bass hungry fans can expect wobble and hum galore.
The crowds at the Main Stage on Saturday can also expect UK garage, dubstep and R&B sounds from South London songstress Katy B in her Main Stage debut, following on from her appearance on the FWD Rinse stage alongside Geeneus & Tippa in 2010.
The undisputed Queen of EDM and mistress of the mash-ups, Annie Mac will take to the GlobalGathering Main Stage for the first time since 2007, following appearances over the years across other arenas. Bringing full production with her for the first time, Annie is set to deliver a mind-blowing experience to the crowds that are sure to congregate to see her show.
Also joining them on the Main Stage on the Saturday will be a live performance from Belgian liquid funk wunderkind Netsky (Live) - whose Global debut last year was one of the most talked about performances of the weekend and has earned him a spot alongside the big guns on the Main Stage for the first time. Plus electronic rockers Modestep (Live) and sultry dub and trip-hop inspired songstress Delilah (Live) will also grace the Main Stage. Etta Bond X Raf Riley and Jem Atkins will also be in attendance
In its third year as a GlobalGathering arena host, event brand Metropolis will be introducing some of the hottest talent from the underground bass scene on the Saturday. Sub Focus will be bringing his live show to headline the arena and will deliver his earth shaking hybrid mix of drum and bass and dubstep. Playing alongside Sub Focus will be the mighty ninja Jaguar Skills as well as Friction (Ft. Scrufizzer, P Money & Linguistics), DJ Hype and MC IC3, with support from Dismantle & Breakage, B Traits, DJ EZ, Monsta, Killsonik, Pegboard Nerds and Northbase bringing the finest sounds of UK bass.
Also returning for a third year to host an arena are Hospitality, the worldwide event promoters of top UK drum and bass imprint Hospital Records. After incredibly successful years at GlobalGathering in 2011 and 2012, they return with the best DnB line up anywhere in the UK this summer with another performance from Netsky (DJ set), plus High Contrast, Danny Byrd, S.P.Y, Wilkinson, Nu:logic, Fred V & Grafix, TC, Metrik, Lung and Camo and Krooked, with a support from an exclusive back to back set from LTJ Bukem and Fabio alongside London Elektricity. MC’s include Wrec, Dynamite, Lowqui, Youthstar, Texas and Carasel.
GlobalGathering are also very pleased to reveal that the legendary Carl Cox & Friends Arena will make an epic return on Saturday to Long Marston Airfield in 2013. After taking a break in 2012, we couldn’t be more excited that Carl Cox & Friends will be back, bringing together a line-up spanning many genres of electronic music. The DJ, the producer, the man, the legend will be bringing the sounds of his classic night from the White Isle with sets from Chris Liebing, Cassy, Nina Kraviz, John Digweed and Circus Recordings boss Yousef, plus many more that are sure to create a summer Ibiza vibe. Welcome back Carl! Also in attendance is Jon Rundell and Just Be/ Bushwacka!
Further arenas on the Saturday include the Global Arena, which will this year showcase headliner and original party starter Steve Aoki, armed with his champagne, inflatable dinghy and birthday cake! As well as that, DJ Mag Top 100 #6 Dutch electro house superstar Hardwell and young French sensation Madeon. Porter Robinson, Dada Life, W&W, Arty, Mat Zo and GlobalGathering resident Paul Thomas hold up the rest of the bill, with a special guest performance from Garuda top dog Gareth Emery. Tom Staar and Marc Spence will also be playing.
Spanning the whole weekend, and also featuring on Saturday is the Godskitchen Arena. No 7 on DJ Mag’s 2012 Top 100, Dash Berlin will be joined by Markus Schulz - recently voted the USA’s Best DJ. Special guest, infamous Israeli psy-trance duo Infected Mushroom. Twice ranked amongst the world’s ‘10 Best DJ’s’ on the notorious DJ Mag Top 100 Poll their sound draws from a plethora of styles – metal, electronica, dubstep, psytrance and everything in between. Aly & Fila, Simon Patterson, Tenishia, tyDi, John 00 Fleming, Jordan Suckley, Jorn van Deynhoven, Heatbeat, Andrew Rayel and Mark Eteson will also be tearing up the arena.
Global are also very excited to welcome Hot Creations head honcho Jamie Jones who will be hosting his very own arena for the first time – the Paradise Arena. Jamie has long been an Ibiza staple who launched his hugely popular Paradise resident night at DC10 in Ibiza last year and is set to launch Paradise Miami later this month. Offering up a Balearic atmosphere with the deeper sound of house, tech house, techno and minimal tech, the arena will showcase some of the best underground acts, with Art Department, Subb-an and Infinity Ink on the bill alongside Damian Lazarus, and support from Richy Ahmed and Bicep.
Also on the Saturday is the Toolroom 10 Arena, a stage devoted to Toolroom Records’ and Mark Knight's distinctive sound, which is back and even bigger in 2013 to celebrate its 10th year at GlobalGathering. The arena, which is focussed on bringing the underground sound of the label to the overground, will be headed up by tech-house veteran Mark Knight. Also playing on the Toolroom Arena is genre-busting producer and remixer MK (Mark Kinchen) along with Doorly, who will be tapping into a collage of house, bass dubstep, jungle, hip hop, techno, funky and more. Mihalis Safras, Rene Amesz, Prok & Fitch, Filthy Rich and Matt Smallwood complete the bill. Toolroom 10 will also host in the all-new Global Freight Depot.
Finally, hosting across the weekend is the FutureGods Arena. The pioneering brand, renowned for discovering unsigned new talent and sounds across the world, will bring an eclectic mix of talent.
